Oregon Road Trip

It was really nice to get away last weekend, we had a great time in Oregon. Last Friday we braved the rush hour grind and pulled into Portland at about 9 pm, more than four hours after we left Seattle (and about two hours longer than it normally takes).

We had a fabulous time in Portland. We stayed at the Hotel Lucia, a high-end and tragically posh place on Broadway, just a few blocks off Burnside. When we arrived we were starved, but found this great Asian bistro just down the street called the Saucebox. I was not feeling adventurous and stuck to standard faire: a Thai seafood curry that was simply outstanding. They have a huge list of exotic cocktails, interesting art on all of the walls, and great service. I couldn't have asked for more for a late dinner in an unfamiliar city.

The next morning we took our annual pilgrimage to Powells Books, and nearly two dozen books later we had a super tasty brunch at Mother's Bistro. After a quick stop to see Claudia Drake's Mechanical Animals at the Sequential Art Gallery we were finally off to the coast.

Usually our annual Oregon Coast trip is just Alex, her parents and I, but this year we were joined by several aunts and uncles, and one one large format bottle of Zinfandel (I think it was a Double Magnum, or perhaps a Jeroboam).

A great time was had by all, and a great deal of wine. I also had a good time taking a few photos – enjoy.
