Taking Barcelona (By Strategy)

So after a gorgeous, scenic, and often trying eight hour train ride through France (and Catalonia, the northeast corner of Spain) we arrived in Barcelona. And what an amazing city! We got our first taste of the Barcelona metro on the way to our apartment–an easy fifteen minute ride from the train station to the Gracia district–then a short march through the neighborhood's narrow streets.

Our apartment turned out to be as amazing as it looked on the vrbo website. It was one of the attic apartments in this building, and was incredibly roomy, probably 1000 square feet. There was a patio, and oh the view! You will see lots of photos from the patio over the ensuing posts.

Along with some patio shots, included are photos from around our neighborhood in the Gracia District; a thorough examination of Gaudi's first major project, Casa Vicens (which was only three blocks form our apartment and we passed every time we came to and from the metro); a visit to a park (l'Espanya Industrial) with a dragon slide so evil it scraped Tilia's ankle and gave me a bruised tailbone that still bothers me; and some wanders through the Born District (and into the truly fabulous Picasso Museum, no photos allowed in the gallery).
